Creating brass mobiles
Mobiles are suspended kinetic sculptures that come to life with the air.
Its movement, light and continuous, speaks to us of balance, rhythm and fluidity.
Invented by Alexander Calder and named by Marcel Duchamp, mobiles play with the double meaning of movement and motif, of gesture and space.
This workshop is an invitation to experiment with metal and space. Throughout the course, you will learn to design and build your own brass mobile, from the initial sketch to the final piece, exploring balance, proportions, and assembly systems.
You don't need any prior experience. Just curiosity and a desire to create a unique piece, following your own pace and your own sensibility.
Course content
- A brief introduction to the world of mobile phones: their origin, their own language, and the different materials that can be used to bring them to life.
- You will learn the basic tools needed to work metal by hand.
- I will accompany you in the design of your own mobile, creating shapes that speak of you and your way of inhabiting space.
- Next, we will move on to the manual work: cutting, sanding, and polishing each piece of brass with care and attention.
